IPL Acne Treatment – Light-Based Therapy for Clearer, Calmer Skin

IPL Acne Treatment is a non-invasive skin therapy that uses targeted wavelengths of intense pulsed light to treat active acne, reduce inflammation, and support clearer skin. This light energy targets P. acnes bacteria, calms redness, and helps regulate oil production—making it an ideal option for treating mild to moderate acne on the face, chest, and back.
By incorporating this technology into a customised treatment plan, Aesthetic Nurse Joanna helps clients manage breakouts and improve overall skin health without downtime.
What IPL Acne Therapy Can Help With
-
Active breakouts (papules and pustules)
-
Red, inflamed acne lesions
-
Oily and congested skin
-
Acne on the face, chest, and upper back
-
Post-acne redness and inflammation
How It Works
IPL delivers controlled pulses of light into the skin. The light targets acne-causing bacteria, while also heating the sebaceous (oil) glands to reduce future breakouts. Additionally, IPL improves circulation and reduces redness associated with inflammatory acne—supporting long-term skin healing.
Treatment Plan & Considerations
Most clients require 4 to 6 treatments, spaced 1–2 weeks apart, to see best results. Maintenance sessions may be recommended every few months, depending on your skin’s condition.
IPL Acne Treatment is suitable for many skin types, but not all. Treatment may not be suitable for:
-
Severe or cystic acne (which may require medical management)
-
Fitzpatrick Skin Types V and VI
-
Recently sun-exposed or sunburnt skin
-
Clients on photosensitising medications, such as Roaccutane (within the last 6 months)
-
Pregnant or breastfeeding clients
-
Compromised or sensitised skin
A comprehensive consultation and test patch is required 24–48 hours prior to your first session.
Aftercare & What to Expect
After treatment, your skin may feel warm, tight or slightly red, similar to a mild sunburn. This usually settles within a few hours. Some clients experience a short-term “purge” where underlying congestion surfaces before clearing—this is normal and temporary.
Post-treatment care includes:
-
Avoiding direct sun and applying SPF 50+ daily
-
Avoiding heat, steam rooms, and intense exercise for 24–48 hours
-
Pausing use of active skincare (e.g. retinoids, AHAs, BHAs) for 3–5 days
-
Avoiding heavy makeup or occlusive products for 24 hours
-
Refraining from picking or squeezing breakouts
Your results will build with each session. With consistent treatment, you can expect a reduction in breakouts, less redness, and calmer, healthier-looking skin.
Supporting Long-Term Skin Health
Once your active acne is under control, it’s time to focus on restoring your skin’s texture and tone.
Aesthetic Nurse Joanna may recommend:
-
Microneedling, a clinical skin treatment that stimulates collagen and helps smooth acne scarring and post-inflammatory pigmentation. Topical growth factors may be included to further support skin regeneration (discussed in consultation only).
-
DMK Skin Revision Therapy, a paramedical treatment approach designed to restore optimal skin function, improve healing, and revise acne-damaged skin. This method works within the skin’s natural structure to rebuild and rebalance.
Together, these treatments form a powerful post-acne rehabilitation plan to rebuild confidence and skin integrity from the inside out.

PRE & POST TREATMENT CARE
During the Treatment:
Mild to moderate heat and discomfort is expected.
Some people equate the sensation to a “rubber band flicking” on the area.
These sensations should always be tolerable.
